Cyprus University is an institution of higher education that promotes knowledge, teaching and learning and thus contributes to the social, economic and cultural life of the people of Cyprus. It contributes to the mutual understanding of the communities of Cyprus, in the cultivation of their several cultures and traditions, in the reconciliation of the two communities and the consolidation of the unity of the State of Cyprus.

The University is located in Nicosia. It is centered in the area of Athalassa, southeast of the Anglaja suburb and has strong links with the city and its community.

Design concept Mainly two paradigms showed to be of majaor concern drafting the concept for the new University Campus:
First: For academically autonomous institutions, not isolating themselves from the community, has to be created a truly urban environment.
Second: The study of particular types of ‘flexible‘ structures as buildings for higher education, encompassing as they do, a wide variety of spaces and functional requirements; for higher education institutions are highly dynamic and make frequent changes in content and organization.

Strategies – design criterias

Ecology The adoption of a compact urban structure for the University minimises the distances for vehicular circulation and therefore limits the negative environmental impact on the vicinity. The emphasis given to cycle and pedestrian circulation combined with good public transportation shall prevent the use of the private car. Landscaping develops simultaneously with the development of the Campus complex in phases and particular attention will given to it.
Energy and Resources Conservation Passive solar gain, solar powered climate control and waste water management systems belong to the energy and resources conservation adopted for the Campus buildings.
Financial Resources The compact urban structures and the careful handling of land use allows for further accommodation of e.g. privately sponsored research and development enterprises and will so contribute substantially to the economy of the University.
